Optional: Earth globe inflatable beach ball
Basket containing flags from around the world OR pictures of children from around the world.
Melody bells or Orff glockenspiels or xylophones
Instructions
"My Town, My World" shows us that our lives are connected throughout the world. Answer these questions, then point them out on the map.
What is the name of your town or city?
What is the name of your state?
What is the name of your country?
What is the name of your continent?
What is the name of your world/planet?
Stand in a circle. As you listen to the song, pass around a ball (or inflatable globe) to the steady beat. Whenever the phrase my town, my world is sung, stop, reach hands up high to clap twice for my town, then reach down low and clap twice for my world. If you have the ball when these words are sung, give the ball to the next person and go sit in the middle of the circle. Continue passing the ball to the beat as the song continues.
If you are sent to the middle of the circle, select a picture of a boy or girl from the basket of world pictures. Hold these pictures up high whenever the phrase my town, my world is sung. As more children are added to the new circle, pass your pictures to the steady beat.
Echo-sing each phrase of the song. Work on the descending interval between my town my world.
When we sing the phrase my town, my world, the notes leap. Which way do they leap? (lower).
Distribute melody bells. Play "A" twice for my town then play "D" twice for my world..
Perform the song by allowing children to pass international flags (and the inflatable globe) to the steady beat while singing the song. Select some volunteers to play the melody bells for my town, my world.
