Satellite photo of Earth to showcase its green and blue colors.
30 green or blue circles (cardstock or laminated) to represent Earth
Green and blue scarves
Maracas
Optional: Soprano recorders
Instructions
"Evergreen, Everblue" is a song about taking care of our environment. Distribute green circles and blue circles. As you listen, hold up your green circle every time you hear the phrase Evergreen. Hold up the blue circle every time you hear the phrase Everblue.
Echo-sing the phrase Help this planet earth. Echo-pat this pattern, alternating hands. Identify the rhythm: Ti-Ti Ti-Ti ka.
Give a pair of maracas to several volunteers. Remember to use alternate hands to play the maraca rhythm properly.

Echo-sing the solos for the song. Work especially on singing with a high light voice on the descending phrase Hear the tree that's falling,Water's for the drinking, and Beluga whales are singing.

Recorder Challenge: Please note that the song changes key at the end. The final four Evergreen, Everblue notes change to C#, A, B and B, C#, A. (Learning C# may be a challenge your best recorder players are ready for!)

This would be a great song to perform for Earth Day on April 22! Hold up green and blue scarves or mini planet Earths created by students every time the phrase Evergreen, Everblue is sung. Choose volunteers for solos. Showcase performers on instruments such as maracas, bongos and Soprano recorders. Students could also dress in green and blue. Paint a large picture of planet earth to have the audience sign at the end of the program.
