Instructions
Choose two people to be Steady Beat leaders as you listen to the song. The leaders will take turns demonstrating steady beat motions for the rest to follow. Alternate leaders every 8-16 beats.
Sing the words to the song together. Choose a clapping pattern for the Dance Break of off-beats or eighth notes.
Compose a 4-beat body percussion routine for the chorus of the song: Feel the beat from your head down to your feet. Feel the beat. Ev'rybody clap your hands! Feel the beat. Ev'ry beat can be so sweet. Feel the beat. Ev'rybody clap your hands!
Divide into groups. Optional: groups may write down a visual reminder of their pattern on index cards with markers.
Example of a 4-beat body percussion routine: clap, snap right, snap left, clap.
Perform your 4-beat routine for other groups. Try out other routines from other groups. Perform with the chorus of the song.
Challenge: compose an 8-beat body percussion routine for the Dance Break of the song.
Example of an 8-beat body percussion routine: clap, snap right, snap left, clap, stomp right, stomp left, stomp right, stomp left. (It is fine to add to your 4-beat routine from the chorus of the song.)
Perform your 8-beat routine for other groups. Try out other routines from other groups. Perform with the Dance Break of the song.
Choose your favorite 4-beat and 8-beat body percussion routines to perform with the entire song.
