As you keep the steady beat on a hand drum, everyone else marches in place. Choose a leader with a strong sense of beat to lead the group around the room. Play this "follow the leader" game while marching to the steady beat for the first verse of "The Goblin Band." Pretend you are in a marching band at a parade.
The goblin band is coming to town, coming to town, coming to town. The goblin band is coming to town. Hooray for Halloween!
Each time the phrase Hooray for Halloween! is sung, a new leader can be chosen, if desired, or the old leader can move to the back of the line and the next person becomes the new leader.
Encourage the group to use hand motions to demonstrate the instruments in the song.
Play their drums: pat their laps
Toot their flutes: Hold hands up next to their heads to mime playing a flute while wiggling the fingers of both hands
Blow their horns: Cup one hand in front of their mouths to buzz a mouthpiece
Crash their cymbals: Slide palms up and down to mime playing cymbals
On the last verse (The goblin band is going away), the group can move back to their original locations and sit down.
ASK: What instruments were in the goblin marching band? (drums, flutes, horns, cymbals)
