Explain that a medley is a group of songs linked together musically to form one song. Play “Jingle Bell Jam” and invite students to identify the songs they hear in the medley.
Start by teaching students the first song in the medley (“Jingle Bells”). Explain that the refrain is a repeated section at the end of each phrase or verse in a song. Teach students the refrain for “Jingle Bells.”
Review that a verse is the section of a song in which the tune remains constant but the lyrics change with each repetition. In this version the verses will be rapped. Explain rapping is speaking the lyrics with rhythmic precision. Echo-speak the verses of “Jingle Bells.”
Teach students “Up On the Housetop,” then perform the first half of the medley.
Direct students to learn “We Wish You a Merry Christmas.”
Invite students to perform “Jingle Bell Jam.”
Optional: Teach students the harmony parts.
