Play the song "Christmas Dreams" and instruct the students to listen for the Christmas dreams mentioned in the lyrics. Prompt the students to identify the Christmas dreams.
ASK What are some Christmas dreams you have?
Remind the students a phrase is a musical thought. Teach students the song phrase by phrase and invite the students to show the phrases kinesthetically (students make a rainbow with their hands in the air.)
Prompt the students to identify the dynamic markings in the music and identify where they sing the loudest (f - forte.) ASK Why do you think the composer chose to make this phrase forte? Continue to discuss all the dynamic markings in the song.
Direct the students to sing the song with proper phrasing and dynamics.
