Sing a patriotic song to remember those who serve our country.
Sing a song in two-part harmony.
Materials
Red, white and blue scarves
Optional: Soprano recorders
Instructions
Stand in a circle. Distribute scarves. As you listen to the verses, pass red, white and blue scarves to the steady beat of the song. Who are we welcoming home? (military, soldiers who have served our country)
As you listen to the refrain, take turns making a sunburst of colors on the phrase welcome home. The first time it is sung, the red scarves will stretch their arms up in a sunburst motion. The white scarves will create a sunburst the second time it is sung. The blue scarves will sunburst the third time. All scarves will sunburst together the fourth time.
At the end of the song, the welcome home phrase is sung ten times. Create a "wave" around the circle by doing a sunburst in groups of two or three with the scarves.
Echo-sing the welcome home phrases from the melody and Part 1. Strive for accurate pitches.

Divide into two groups: Part 1 and Part 2. Practice singing slowly with the piano first, then sing with the recording. If there is extra time, repeat the song and switch parts.

This would be a great song to perform for Veteran's Day (November 11). This holiday honors men and women who have served in the United States Armed Forces. It can be sung with harmony and optional Soprano recorders. Red, white and blue clothing and scarves could be used, as well as American flags.
