Introduce the 3/4 time signature explaining there are three beats in each measure and the quarter note receives the beat. Prompt students to softly perform body percussion — pat, clap, clap — as they listen to "Silver Bells."
Explain the refrain is a repeated section at the end of each phrase or verse in a song. Play "Silver Bells" again and direct students to show a silent thumbs up when they hear the refrain of the song. Guide students to learn the refrain of the song.
Explain the verse is the section of a song in which the tune remains constant but the lyrics change with each repetition. Invite students to identify how many verses are in the song. Guide students to learn the verses of the song.
Invite students to sing "Silver Bells."
Optional: Teach the harmony in the refrain.
