Using your preferred method of counting, prompt the students to echo you clapping rhythm patterns from “The Chipmunk Song” as a warm-up. Include dotted quarter note-eighth note rhythm patterns.
Play the song. Prompt the students to identify the rhythm patterns from the warm-up. Echo-clap the rhythms. Echo-sing the rhythms with lyrics.
Invite students to learn the first section of the song. (measures 14-19)
Explain to students the next section is the same as the first but you are going to sing it on a “hum” while you think the words in your head.
Direct students to sing “The Chipmunk Song.”
